In Valley of the Dolls, Patty Duke delivered one of the greatest lines ever to come out of a cult classic.  Her Neely O’Hara was volatile, magnetic, and impossible to look away from. It was camp at its highest form, but rooted in something very real.

Patty Duke was more than a star —she was a prodigy.  At 16, she became the youngest Academy Award winner of her time for The Miracle Worker, and soon after the youngest person to lead a television series named after her. Even then, she brought a depth far beyond her years.

Off screen, her life was far more complicated. One of the first major public figures to speak openly about her bipolar disorder diagnosis, she became a relentless advocate for mental health, testifying before Congress to push for greater funding, understanding, and support long before it was fashionable to do so.
